Am I missing the point/plot?
Into the mid-30's. I've missioned, thumped, and played a little at Broken Peninsula. Feeling kinda lost.
Downsides:
The PvE missions are about as bland as you can get without actually using place holder names. Go to $_Place by Following Guiding Line, Get Jumped, ****** Things Until Voice says "Well that's all of them". Even though a bunch are still attacking you. You cannot get missions above your level enough though they are silly easy. The crazy lady in your ear makes all the decisions and moral judgments. At the end of ARES missions why isn't there a fast travel out of the complex? Why do you have to drive back to the board to the next mission in a chain? For that matter, why do i have drive back to town to turn in a mission? The crazy lady seems to be able to call everyone on the planet remotely. I don't need to go to town to stand in front of someone to say, "yep. ****** all the bugs. Where is the next spot to go **** more bugs?"
The currency isn't granular enough to make any crafting for profit remotely interesting, i.e.: carbon, iron, tung, etc all cost 1 Blue. This makes market play sketchy at best. Crafting is so simple that calling crafting seems to be a misnomer.
Tornadoes are fun! The first 5 times you do them, then meh. Same for Chosen invasion. It's awesome seeing 20-40 people all working together to push those things back. Then everyone runs to the counter invasion! Then on to the nearest Tornado! However, after doing them a dozen times, you are just waiting for the spawn timer to stop and hope you can get to the counter attack before it's done.
Broken Peninsula. An apt name indeed. Nothing in this zone works, except some ticket collecting. You know what is not fun in a video game? Traveling 2KM on foot for 10 minutes, so you can put a ball down and stand around for 20 minutes while collecting the local monopoly money three at a time. I've only found an SRT working once. Even then they do work, you and your squad are only farming for "the team".
The Cobra bike has jets!! But no torque. Small woodland creatures cut your speed in 1/2 if you so much as clip them. A 5% grade is the nemesis of this thing. The rider shifts gear at about 3k RPM. What's the point of having a big open desert and a giant bike with 8 jets if you drive like you're taking Miss Daisy to church on Sunday. Don't get me started on the giant ramp up near Trans-Hub with a bike that has jets and no momentum.
Speaking of travel! When driving between zones, why don't I end up on the other side of the zone wall? I didn't drive through the blue wall to get teleported to Shanty Town when I was way up north. When moving between zones, why do I get get put into different shards than my Squad mates? Why does Trans-Hub get an arc folder but Dredge only flies back to Shanty Town (Note: I hate Shanty Town and everything about it).
Upside:
Jet Packs and Laser guns! World events are fun at first! Art assets and feel of the world is great.
Question:
So, what am I missing. Why after 3 days of play does this game feel hollow? It's a shell of a good game.
tl;dr: PvE boring, crafting to simple, econ non-existent, PvP/high level zone broken. What to do?
